MAFB – Montgomery Area Food Bank
The Montgomery Area Food Bank (MAFB) is a non-profit organization founded in 1986 with the mission of locating, procuring, and distributing nutritious food to individuals in need in the 12 counties of Alabama’s River Region. They have collaborated with over 200 agencies and 575 partner organizations throughout the state to provide nutritious meals to the most vulnerable populations. The counties Elmore, Bullock, Autauga, Chilton, Butler, Lowndes, Coosa, Crenshaw, Macon, Montgomery, Pike, and Tallapoosa have access to their services. They distributed 26 million pounds of food to those in need in the past year.
Additionally, the MAFB collaborates with other organizations to combat starvation in the state. They collaborate with the Alabama Food Bank Association and the Feeding America network to assist families experiencing food insecurity. They run programs such as Kids Cafe, Backpack Program, and Senior Feeding that seek to provide nutritious meals to food-insecure children, seniors, and families.
The MAFB relies significantly on individual and corporate contributions to fund its programs. The MAFB can provide five meals to a person in need for only $1. They encourage individuals to organize food drives and donate their time to aid in their mission to serve the needy.
The MAFB has been instrumental in serving 35 Alabama counties and reducing starvation in the state. Many families have been aided by their efforts in overcoming starvation, malnutrition, and food insecurity. The organization remains dedicated to its mission of ensuring that no one goes to bed famished, and they continue to work diligently toward this end.

| MP – Mobile Pantry Program | The “Mobile Pantry (MP) Program” serves rural, low-income Americans, providing 15,000 pounds of food to 120–150 households through a tractor trailer filled with food, transported to a charity or church, and distributed by local or sponsored volunteers. |
| SSP – Senior Supplement Program | The Senior Supplement Program (SSP) provides 25–35 pounds of food to each senior per month, distributing fresh, nutrient-dense veggies, protein, and fiber, relieving the burden of seniors on a budget who must choose between healthy food and medicine, utilities, and housing. |
| SNAP Benefits | The organization assists Alabama and Mississippi SNAP applicants to determine eligibility and apply for benefits. Additionally, the Benefits Enrollment Center helps low-income citizens, seniors, and those with disabilities pay for medication, health care, and housing. |
| CSFP – Commodity Supplemental Food Program | The Commodity Supplemental Food Program (CSFP) provides USDA food goods to low-income Montgomery seniors over 60, providing meal packets to boost their diets with nutrients they often lack. Seniors who get CSFP meal delivery may avoid hospitalizations and nursing care stays due to their hunger. |
| Child Nutrition – Programs | Feeding Alabama and its eight food bank affiliates provide several nutrition initiatives for children and families, serving nearly 250,000 Alabama children who are malnourished and providing nutritional food year-round for youngsters to address the issue of one in five going hungry every day |
