Feeding Northeast Florida
Feeding Northeast Florida is a charitable organisation with the goal of eliminating hunger in the region of Northeast Florida. The food bank serves Baker, Bradford, Clay, Duval, Flagler, Nassau, Putnam, and St. Johns counties, making its service area comprised of 17 counties in Northeast Florida. It is the biggest and most efficient food bank servicing these counties. The organisation, which has made it its mission to provide food for those in need in the region, has the long-term goal of eradicating hunger in Northeast Florida.
Distribution of food to charity organisations and programmes that provide for the day-to-day requirements of customers who are in need of food assistance is one of the most important programmes that Feeding Northeast Florida does. The organisation gives away millions of pounds of food each year, and it is now on track to give away 35.5 million pounds of food this year alone. This is an increase of more than 15% from the amount of food given away in 2020, and it is also more than twice the amount of food given away in 2019. A network of over 150 partner organisations and programmes, such as food pantries, soup kitchens, and schools, receives the food and then distributes it to people and families who are in need of it. Feeding Northeast Florida’s mission is to alleviate hunger in the region.
Programmes
In addition, Feeding Northeast Florida operates a number of additional programmes, such as the “Feeding our Seniors” programme, which, throughout the course of the preceding year, made available food resources to an estimated one in six seniors residing in the eight counties that it serves. In addition, the organisation runs a workforce development programme for those who have difficulty finding work. Through this programme, they provide job possibilities and training to such individuals. This programme helps people break the cycle of poverty and food insecurity by equipping them with the skills they need to secure stable employment that pay a good wage. This in turn helps break the cycle of poverty.
The volunteers
The organisation Feeding Northeast Florida depends largely on the assistance of volunteers to aid with quality control inspections of donated food and grocery goods, as well as sorting, labelling, boxing, and repackaging of the products in preparation for distribution. On the organization’s website, individuals, families, and organisations may join up to volunteer in a variety of capacities. Every dollar that is contributed to the organisation helps provide six meals to people who are in need, and the organisation takes contributions of money, food, and time from members of the community as well as companies in the area.
