Description

A Place Called Home

In 1993, a non-profit organisation called A Place Called Home (APCH) was established in South Central Los Angeles. The charity offers young people, ages 8 to 21, who often reside in underserved regions, a secure and encouraging environment. The mission of APCH is to assist youth in discovering their calling, realising their ambitions, and creating a brighter future for both themselves and their families.

Academic help, counselling, mentorship, and programming in the creative arts are just a few of the many services and activities that APCH provides to its members. The group offers tutoring, college preparedness training, and help with homework among other academic offerings. The counselling programme offers both one-on-one and group therapy to assist young people in coping with a range of problems, including as trauma, loss, and stress. The mentorship programme matches young people with wholesome adults who can serve as role models and provide advice and support as they cope with the difficulties of adolescence.

Moreover, APCH provides a range of creative arts courses in the areas of music, dance, theatre, and visual arts. These initiatives provide young people the chance to express themselves artistically, increase their self-worth, and learn new abilities. For instance, the organization’s Music Production Program teaches young people how to compose and record their own music, while its Fashion Design Program assists students in honing their sewing and fashion design abilities.

In addition to its activities and services, APCH also runs a community centre that offers young people a secure and friendly environment. The facility has a computer lab, theatre, dance studio, recording studio, and outdoor sports and amusement areas.

The lives of young people in South Central Los Angeles are being significantly impacted by the overall message of A Place Called Home. The organisation offers young people the resources and assistance they need via its programmes and services so they may overcome obstacles, accomplish their objectives, and create a better future for themselves and their families.
