Community Food Bank of Southern Arizona

The Community Food Bank of Southern Arizona is a non-profit organization whose mission is to provide emergency food assistance in five Southern Arizona counties. They are financed by a combination of federal programs, such as TEFAP and CSFP, which provide nutritious sustenance to individuals aged 60 and over.

Individuals in need of food assistance are visited once a month through the Emergency Food Assistance Program (TEFAP). Additionally, the Organization administers the Caridad Community Kitchen, which provides sustenance to those in need.

Children’s access to nutritious food is one of the Organization’s top priorities. During the school year, they operate 35 school pantries and pop-up school markets that provide sustenance for children. In addition, they offer summer breakfast and after-school snacks to up to 600,000 local students under the age of 18 years old.

The organization also provides horticulture seminars and local food initiatives that aim to increase access to fresh fruits and vegetables and promote healthy eating habits. The weekly, year-round market offers Double-Up SNAP food, culinary demonstrations, and culturally pertinent foods to ensure that everyone has access to wholesome, delectable meals.

In addition to providing food assistance, the Organization provides small businesses and nonprofits with loan opportunities. The loans range from $100 to $250,000 and are intended to assist local organizations addressing food insecurity and destitution in their communities.

Overall, the Food Bank of Southern Arizona is an indispensable organization that plays a crucial role in combating poverty and promoting healthy eating habits in Southern Arizona. Their various programs and initiatives have assisted innumerable individuals and families in gaining access to nutritious food, and their loan opportunities have provided vital support to local organizations working to enhance the lives of those in need. The Organization is making a significant contribution to the community’s fight against starvation and destitution through their ceaseless efforts.
