NAMI-NYC Metro – National Alliance on Mental Illness of New York City

The National Alliance on Mental Illness of New York City (NAMI NYC) is a nonprofit organisation whose goal is to enhance the standard of living for people with mental illness and their families. NAMI NYC provides a comprehensive variety of services to people and families in need, with a purpose to promote mental health awareness, providing support and education, and fight for the rights of persons with mental illness.

NAMI NYC’s Helpline, a free and private phone service staffed by trained volunteers who give support, advice, and referrals to people with mental illness and their families, is one of the main services they provide. You may call the Helpline at (212) 684-3264 from 10 am to 6 pm, Monday through Friday.

For people and families impacted by mental illness, NAMI NYC provides a range of support groups and educational activities in addition to the Helpline. These initiatives include family and carer support groups, support groups for people with mental illnesses, and educational initiatives on issues including mental disease awareness, symptom management, and navigating the mental health system.

With its public policy activities, NAMI NYC also fights for the rights of people with mental illness and their families. These programmes emphasise expanding access to mental health services, eradicating the stigma associated with mental disease, and guaranteeing that people who are suffering from mental illness are treated fairly and with respect.

In general, NAMI NYC is essential in New York City’s effort to assist and advocate for those with mental illness and their families.
