The Village Temple
The Village Temple is a Reform Jewish synagogue located in downtown New York City. It aims to be a place of connection, where Reform Jews can explore Torah, build relationships with other congregants, discover links between past and present, and find balance in their daily lives through the respite of Shabbat.
The Village Temple welcomes all individuals who wish to join their community. Whether you were born into Judaism, are a Jew by choice, part of an interfaith family, or identify as a non-traditional family, The Village Temple invites you to explore their community. The synagogue encourages believers and skeptics alike to join in their quest for meaning and connection. The Village Temple offers the following services:
- Worship Services: The Village Temple offers weekly Shabbat services on Friday evenings and Saturday mornings. These services are open to all, regardless of background or level of observance, and feature a blend of traditional and contemporary music and prayer. They also offer services for holidays and special occasions throughout the year.
- Education Programs: The Village Temple provides a variety of educational programs for all ages, including religious school for children, adult learning classes, and Torah study groups. They aim to create a dynamic and engaging environment where individuals can explore their Jewish identity, deepen their knowledge, and connect with their community.
- Social Justice and Tikkun Olam: The Village Temple is committed to making a positive impact in the world through social justice initiatives and acts of tikkun olam, or repairing the world. They partner with local and global organizations to support causes such as hunger relief, refugee assistance, and environmental sustainability.
- Community Building: The Village Temple is a community-centered organization that seeks to foster connections among its members. They provide opportunities for socializing, volunteering, and celebrating together. They also offer support to members during times of joy and sorrow, including baby naming, weddings, and funerals.
To become a part of The Village Temple community, all individuals are encouraged to add their voice to the synagogue’s songs and prayers. The Village Temple welcomes questions and doubts, and encourages all members to actively engage in the community. By joining The Village Temple, individuals are invited to participate in a shared journey of exploration, meaning, and joy.
