Wichita Falls Area Food Bank
Nourishing Hope, Alleviating Hunger
Introduction
Established in January 1982, the Wichita Falls Area Food Bank (WFAFB) serves as a centralized food procurement organization dedicated to alleviating hunger in twelve North Texas counties. As the sixth food bank in Texas and an independent 501(c)(3) organization, the WFAFB plays a vital role in providing food to qualified charitable agencies that, in turn, distribute it to individuals and families in need. With a commitment to integrity and professionalism, the WFAFB has grown over the years, expanding its facility and reaching out to various sources for donated food.
Mission: Alleviating Hunger through Community Support
By ensuring that people in the community have access to healthy food, the Wichita Falls Area Food Bank works toward its goal of reducing the prevalence of hunger in the area. Collaboration with charity organizations and the acquisition of food from a variety of sources are the primary focuses of their work. Donated food is inspected, cleaned, and stored until it is required by partner organizations. This process ensures the food’s high level of quality and safety.
Commitment to Professional Standards
The company places a high value on being honest and having integrity in its commercial dealings. They utilize the anonymous reporting system that is provided by Lighthouse Services in order to uphold professional standards and guarantee responsibility. With the use of this tool, community members and staff members are able to report difficulties, make comments, or lodge complaints. This gives the administration the ability to handle any concerns in a timely and open manner. The WFAFB is a charitable organization, thus it is exempt from paying taxes under the 501(c)(3) code, and it adheres to the USDA Nondiscrimination Statement in order to guarantee that everyone has fair and equitable access to food supplies.
Partnering with the Community: Getting Involved
They contribute in several ways:
- Cash Donations: Monetary contributions help the food bank acquire and distribute food efficiently.
- Volunteering: Community members are encouraged to volunteer their time, talent, and resources to assist in various food bank activities.
- Partnerships: Collaborations with businesses, organizations, and other community stakeholders strengthen the food bank’s impact.
- Farmers Market Nutrition Programs: The purpose of these programs is to offer qualified participants with access to fresh fruits and vegetables while also supporting local farmer’s markets. The FMNP serves qualifying WIC participants, providing vouchers for use at certified farmers’ markets between May 1 and September 30. The SFMNP offers vouchers to seniors aged 60 or older with income qualifications, also redeemable at certified farmers’ markets during the same period. For inquiries about these programs, individuals can contact Michelle Oates, the Administrative Director, at the provided phone number.
Conclusion
The organization has been a pillar of support in the fight against hunger for over three decades. With a mission to alleviate hunger, the food bank procures and distributes food to qualified agencies that serve the community. By fostering partnerships, encouraging community involvement, and administering nutrition programs, the WFAFB not only provides nourishment but also nurtures hope within the community. Together, we can make a difference in the lives of those facing food insecurity.
