Description

City Harvest

City Harvest is a non-profit organization dedicated to rescuing food and fighting hunger in New York City. Since its founding in 1982, City Harvest has been working to address the issue of food insecurity by saving excess food from restaurants, grocery stores, and other businesses and redistributing it to those in need.

City Harvest provides some services and programs as below:

  • Food Rescue: Through this program, the organization collects excess food from more than 2,500 food donors, including restaurants, supermarkets, and farmers’ markets, and redistributes it to a network of over 400 soup kitchens, food pantries, and other community organizations throughout New York City. This helps to provide millions of meals to New Yorkers who might otherwise go hungry.
  • Mobile Markets®: Through this program, thousands of New Yorkers receive free monthly deliveries of fresh fruits and vegetables. Locals congregate at farmers’ markets to buy fresh food and watch culinary demos to learn how to prepare nutritious meals.
  • Nutrition Education: The Nutrition Education team helps our neighbors by imparting knowledge on how to select, prepare, and eat excellent, economical meals. The five boroughs’ community groups and City Harvest collaborate to provide free nutrition education programs led by City Harvest employees and volunteers.
  • Healthy Retail: They endeavor to provide access to wholesome, affordable food in all neighborhoods via their work with healthy retail.
  • Plentiful: It is a free, simple mobile reservation application that enables interaction between community food programs and the individuals we serve. Anyone may use any smartphone to download the Plentiful app to find food pantries nearby and schedule a time to pick up food without standing in line. Link To App >>>

Overall, City Harvest is a vital resource for New Yorkers in need. Its innovative programs and services make a real difference in the lives of the most vulnerable and promote a more sustainable and equitable future for all.
