Description
Women Helping Women (WHW)
Women Helping Women (WHW) is a group founded in 1973 that is dedicated to ending gender-based violence and empowering survivors. WHW offers sexual violence crisis assistance to Brown and Adams Counties in Ohio, in addition to Hamilton and Butler County residents who have suffered dating violence, sexual misconduct, domestic abuse, or stalking. In everything that it does, WHW is governed by a public health paradigm that places a premium on diversity and inclusion and centers on the needs of survivors.
Gender-based violence is a serious public health issue that affects women globally. Gender-based violence threatens women’s lives, bodies, psychological well-being, and independence. The Women’s Health Workgroup places an emphasis on three distinct types of gender-based violence: sexual assault, each type of domestic abuse, and lastly stalking. WHW offers its support services to people of all genders, including men and members of the LGBTQ community, despite the fact that the vast majority of survivors are women.
WHW’s prevention efforts include advocating with policymakers and developing a public health framework for prevention at the individual, professional service provider, school, and corporate levels. WHW’s Prevent and Empower programs are evidence-based and interactive, providing education on sexual assault and harassment, consent, bystander intervention, and communication techniques for fostering healthy relationships. WHW also provides support services for hospitalization and crisis management, offering one-on-one crisis intervention sessions for survivors and connecting them with ongoing treatment options.
In addition to providing direct services to survivors, WHW also offers advocacy in court, accompanying survivors to criminal and civil court to offer support and assistance with legal paperwork. WHW has also partnered with Miami University and the University of Cincinnati to provide free and confidential advocacy services to survivors of gender-based violence on both campuses, for both students and staff.
WHW also provides community and corporate training to raise awareness about gender-based violence and the impact it has on individuals of all ages, genders, and racial groups. WHW believes that nobody should be mistreated and works tirelessly to promote a world free of gender-based violence.
WHW is committed to putting an end to gender-based violence and empowering survivors, and its survivor-centric public health paradigm places a high priority on diversity and inclusion as core values.
